Paolo Conterno

Paolo Conterno - Cover

The story of this winery started in 1886, when Paolo Conterno founded “Casa della Ginestra”, dedicated to the production of Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto wines. Paolo was succeeded by his son Carlo and his wife Giuseppina. The winery was subsequently run by Paolo and Caterina Conterno and today by their son Giorgio.
Conterno’s vineyards are located in the historical “Ginestra” cru. Ten hectares of calcareous-clayey loam, favourably situated at an altitude between 300 and 350 metres, arranged on steep slopes, prevalently exposed to the south and in part to the south east.
The Conterno family winemaking credo is straight forward. They has simply done justice to this land, which so readily lends itself to the production of Nebbiolo. The Ginestra Cru is one of the most important vineyards of Barolo - a valley perfect for the production of long-lived and full-bodied Barolos. Ginestra is a unique terroir the summits of which are favoured by climate monitoring and constant high luminosity, enabling the foliage to work with great precociousness,
achieving an ideal level of phenolic maturation.
The Conterno family also ownes a winery in Tuscany, near Florence.
