Piancornello takes its name from the hamlet just South of Montalcino where the winery is located. The 10 ha of estate vineyards are located on hilly land with rocky, volcanic soils and southern exposures which contribute to crafting full bodied, mineral wines. The Orcia river runs along the southside of the Piancornello estate, on its way to the sea and the Orcia valley leads the warm breeze from the Mediterranean sea to blow in the vineyards all year round. These conditions allow for at early harvest before the autumn rainfalls start. This is considered to be one of the finest areas for the production of Brunello di Montalcino.
The estate is owned by Silvana Pieri. Her son, Claudio Monaci, is the winemaker.
The Piancornello wines are produced with the objective of respecting the characteristics of the Montalcino terroir, crafting traditional style wines with the stamina to age many years in the bottle.
